You gotta love the joys of childhood! You know the ones where he is running this way and you are running the the other way, because he is quicker than you, and passed you on the inside, then took a quick turn in the opposite direction leaving you scratching your head.
The last few weeks for me have consisted of:
"Dylan let mama know if you have to go pee pee."
"Mope, no pee, pee"
"Dylan looks like your body is giving you a clue you have to pee"
"No poopy, no pee pee"
Ending is a big crescendo of "no pee pee, NO PEE PEE, NO PEE PEE" as he does laps around the house holding himself. And then me running behind him with a towel.
Meanwhile the little bugger is counting backwards from 100!!! And doing basic addition with a calculator "2+2 is 4, 4+2 is 6"! For goodness sakes son put the numbers DOWN and pee pee on the potty! I know I know . . . I don't tell him that. BUT I am venting it now. Sometimes I wish he would just act like a 3 year old and scribble and play with play doh!
Needless to say it has been one of those weeks! A month ago my husband found this magical online ezine about how to train your child EASY in 3 days. Not just train them, train them EASY! I rolled my eyes, but after trying everything. . . M&M's, stickers, special books, DVD's, letting him play in a bowl of water while on the potty ( oh yes, another fun one my husband found that ended up a mess that he was not around to clean up!), we have tried reverse psychology, bribing with puppies, and trips to Disney, and even a "potty calculator" (what can I say he LOVES numbers) nothing was cutting it for this kid.
So I thought, what the heck! Let's try this 3 DAY magic trick! BUT I said. . .I'll be smart! Because I know 3 days is outrageous, I'll go a step further and plan on A WEEK! So I read the ezine. Basically you take a 30 day break, and set your calender for "the big day" in hopes that it will be a fresh start for everyone. Then you quit cold turkey. Have him throw out the diapers, and underwear only. She says to only focus on positive, give lots of encouragement, give him 100% of your time, and never force them on the potty, or put them on the potty constantly to "Try". "Trying" works for some kids, but for Dylan it caused a lot of issues.
So everyday this week, I kept positive, we made cookie, we played games, I tried to get him to color with no luck (he does not care for art things), and we made MORE cookies. Boy do I have cabin fever! Everyday once he went down for a nap I scarfed about 5 cookies and was eager to submerge myself in something lace. And preferably avoid the color yellow at all cost! Like an angery bull and the color red, keep that yellow AWAY! No more yellow!
I decided to finish up a project an art friend was having me make for her. So hear she is. . . . My escape from my head for the last week. She is COVERED in fluff! "She" being the dressform. There is so much detail that the camera did not even pick up.
So here it is day 5. AND as you may guess. Dylan is definitely NOT potty trained. So I am trying to just look back and laugh at my naive attempt to potty train my son in one week, let alone 3 days. Honestly from here I really don't have a plan. I guess I am just gonna have to stock up on laundry detergent and COOKIES and cross my fingers that soon he will decide to give in. Until then I will be trying to manage as best as possible. For Dylan there is no special trick. I really hoped I would stumble upon someone who had the perfect secrete. But in the end I guess it is what it is, and every child is different.
Thanks for listening! WISH ME LUCK!

There is a charming series of books about potty training--for children. The one for girls is called "Once Upon a Potty." This finally did the trick for us and our one cussedly smart kiddo who refused to potty train till well over 2.
Good Luck!

Have you tried cheerios? You know, for "target practice"? My aunt swore by this...I only had girls so I can't guarantee it...
Ok, now about that mannequin. Wow, that is beautiful! I mean really. I can't believe how wonderful you MAKE these!
I would love to have one, but am even afraid to ask how much you charge to do this. :)
Good luck with the potty training. My youngest daughter was difficult to train as well. My oldest? A dream. Once she realized she didn't have to potty in a diaper, she never looked back. I think she only had one accident even. Seriously. But my youngest daughter made up for how easy her sister was...so I get where you're coming from.

The dress form is beautiful, Cassandra! You are so amazing! Sorry you are having so many potty training issues with Dylan. Maybe you should try not mentioning it to him for a few days and see what his reaction is. Maybe he will decide on his own to go potty. It's worth a chance!lol
See you soon sweetheart!
hugs,
Sherry
